CABIRIA REOPENS MARCHETTI

Once again, The Camerino Players have enjoyed another record success. This time with a new musical, “Cabiria” that was presented for the first time on stage at the “Marchetti” theatre in Camerino. It took months of hard work to set up a nearly three-hour show. On stage, there were about 50 people if we consider the actors, extras and supporting characters to the scene. If we consider the entire staff working behind the scenes, there were 30 more people. The whole show was fun, charming and, at the same time, moving.

Maria Pia Gasperini excels in the role of Cabiria with brilliance and an enviable spontaneity that continues to arouse applause, with a look and the means of expression much the style of the legendary Liza Minnelli, with a comedy no less personalized and fun than that of the actress Giulietta Masina.

On this respect, I must say it is the director Sydney Higgins who has that responsibility.  I have to say this: the director Sydney Higgins manages to pull off amazing things from people who have never played, danced or worked in the theatre. It’s something exceptional that shows what he is able to give us under his direction.

Higgins, the director has demonstrated throughout his joy in the great success of this new and original creation of Cabiria. Working in tune with him was Lamberto Lugli, who has arranged all the music, which had its moment of glory in the live interpretation of beautiful romantic English songs.

After the success of "Goodbye Berlin", the director Sydney Higgins and his Camerino Players are back with the musical "Sweet Charity" (Cabiria) by Cy Coleman. The moving character of Cabiria (Maria Pia Gasperini), an "entreneuse" who continually fringes in our dreams of true love certainly an important reason for the success of the show. It was beautiful all together, thanks to the original scenery of Maurice Reubens and the colourful costumes by Anna Lambourne.
